Struggle to survive in the Wild Eight

The Wild Eight is a multiplayer co-op survival game in which you take on the role of a plane-crash survivor struggling to stay alive in the snowy wilds of Alaska. You'll need to gather resources, avoid predators, craft new items, and above all stay warm in the icy wilderness.

Choose Your Survivor

The Wild Eight follows basic survival-game concepts that will be familiar to anyone who's played other survival games, but with a few interesting twists. The titular Wild Eight are the eight survivors of the plane crash, each of whom has a different special ability that makes them strong in certain areas. The top-down perspective, muted colour scheme and stylised graphics make this a particularly attractive change from the saminess of most survival clones. The game is challenging -- resources are scarce and death will cost you hard-won experience -- but the interface is simple and clear, with easy-to-use menus. Some parts of the control system do take a little getting used to. Like fellow plane-crash survival game The Forest, The Wild Eight possesses a rudimentary plotline that suggests that there's something unusual going on behind the disaster story on the surface.

Into the Outdoors

If you like survival games and don't mind a fair amount of grinding, some occasional cannibalism and a high difficulty level, chances are you'll enjoy this attractively-designed survival-RPG hybrid.

PROS

  • Interesting character options especially in multiplayer
  • Beautiful but chilling procedurally-generated landscapes

CONS

  • Some controls take a little getting used to
  • Relatively high difficulty level
